An experimental piece in Indian ink on brown paper that I tried a few weeks ago, I really want to create a large version of one of my motif designs for the degree show but I don’t think I’ll have time now, hopefully I will…
a few days until final submission and it’s all hands on deck to finish my model!
Bit stressed but I’m sure I’ll get it done in time, even if it does mean a few late nights
oh yeah, the hair experiment went well, Mark Ronson eat your heart out
I did it for a few reasons, one being just for the fun of it - as a student you can get away with it, whereas in the real world conventional jobs require conventional appearance and you’re chance to be a bit silly with your appearance fade into the monotony of adult life, second reason was sort of as a social experiment to see how differently people treat you but there was no negative reaction bazarely, a few intrigued double takes but mostly indifference - one of the many reasons I love Bristol is because the people here generally accept diversity, it was liberating and I felt more confident for doing something bold, a bucket list ‘do something everyday that scares you’ experience, all in all, a fun experience that I can say I’ve tried
I went out for a coffee a couple of weeks ago, stepped out the back door and found myself in the middle of the Bristol Italian Motor Show, it was a nice surprise!
Trying to create some new work… it’s very slow going, I’ve lost the passion I once had for Fine Art, I actually think I hate it these days, the corperate and institutional side of things strangulated that initial enthusiasm I had as a fresher, that and the fact that tutors frequently tell me that my work is not suited to their criteria and definition of fine art, bad times.
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to update my blog because of internet problems at my student flat (and being busy)
Here are a few photo’s of the hills and mountains of Llanberis and Mount Snowdon which I climbed in November, slightly boring I know, but in real life the scenery is amazing and it was really good fun
Edwardian Pavilion Model
Designed and made from scratch, the main piece for the the 2011/12 academic year so far.
It is a depiction of idea’s relating to the demolition of heritage architecture, the subject of which I am writing my dissertation on, focusing mainly on the wreckless demolition of the 1950’s-70’s (so much hate for those decades - in terms of architecture anyway)
Third year of uni annoyingly means that most of my time is generally tied up in written work.
I still hope to make models more like this, although it was very time consuming…
